The most important consideration when writing a letter is who will read it. A good letter has a certain structure and style varies considerably in terms of formality depending upon the intended reader. Style also varies according to the medium. Consider the differences in writing styles between say, a telegram, a post card, an email message to a friend, a letter to a friend, sibling, cousin, parent, co-worker, university supervisor, or company boss.
